The Athletes of Double T

Check out our Athletes on www.DogTec.com Under Kennel Directory then continetal United States and listed as Double T Kennel

When first deciding to set racing as a goal we decided to not mess around with potential athletes and especially not the free dogs. We went to the top producers of traditional Alaskan huskies and those of the Hound crossed Alaskan huskies. Although both provided top notch athletisism we found the more traditonal dogs to be less finiky and more of what we were looking for. I must mention that to this day one of my main dogs is Elton a hound cross and one of the original 4 dogs purchased.

Currently the entire kennel is out of 3 males - Peppy, Ricky and Eltoro - all Swingley, and a half dozen females, also all Swingley. Over the past few years we purchased some of Doug's top producing females with the hopes of duplicating his breeding success and using Ricky mainly as a stud. We have had 2 successful breeding seasons and have lots of young athletes to work with. Our top priority is to maintain a responsible breeding program and keeping the experimental breedings to a minimum thus insuring us the highest levels of returns available. We are extremely pleased with our results to date. These are the most naturally gifted athletes we have seen. Great coats, uniform size and lots of attitude makes us very excited about the future. Next season we plan to breed to a super stud who has been proven many times and is outside of our kennel and blood lines. We will use the 3 top producing females in the kennel in an attempt to maintain a healthy pool of genetics.

This season we will be starting off with 32 athletes, half of which are yearlings, 23 males and 9 females. Our hopes are to bring the youngest group of dogs to the Iditarod as possible with the exception of Darla. Darla was one of Doug Swingley's main leaders in his Last two Iditarod finishes. She is a solid dog that loves to go. She will be the only dog in the team that has made the trip to Nome. In addition to Darla we have 6 other race leaders. We plan on bringing 4 leaders and 12 dogs that are 3 yrs old and under. This leaves us plenty extra just in case.
